I have been performing and recording music for twenty years in such bands as Water Shed 5Tet, the Crawlin’ Low Band, OPEK, and, most recently, Daryl Fleming & the Public Domain. Better the Parcel than the Post, my solo debut CD, was named best local album of 2002 by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The Fable of the Bees, the 2007 recording by Daryl Fleming & the Public Domain, is available through my website, www.darylfleming.com.
The band continues to accept club engagements, while sometimes it is stripped down to appear at singer-songwriter-type events. In recent years I have expanded my performance activities to include dramatic readings (two appearances at the American Shorts Reading Series) and a stage role in the Bricolage Theater production of David Terkel’s Holler.
The Elusive Snapping Republic, my multimedia stage presentation that combines performance with my interests and university degrees in philosophy and education, appeared at both the Andy Warhol Museum and the Pittsburgh Filmmaker’s MediaTonic II festival (2005). OPEK, a Sun Ra-inspired big band, is scheduled to resume performances in the Spring of 2007. I also continue to perform with Eden McNutt’s improv ensemble Dust and Feathers; we put on the Pittsburgh debut of Gino Robair’s experimental opera I, Norton, at the Andy Warhol Museum in October 2006.
